Semantic Degree

This topic describes the implementation and functionality of the Semantic Degree Search feature in the JD to Resume Match method of the Search and Match API

The Semantic Degree Search enhances the accuracy and relevance of degree matching between job descriptions (JDs) and resumes by semantically expanding the degree criteria. This functionality improves matching precision by considering not only exact degree names but also related degrees with similar meanings.

The Semantic Degree Search distinguishes between normalized degrees and single word degrees in the matching process:

  • Single Word Degree: A degree that consists of only one word, such as "Bachelor" or "Master". For example, if the JD specifies "Bachelor", the parser treats it as a single word degree. In this case, semantic degree search will not be applied because the degree lacks specificity.

  • Normalized Degree: A complete and descriptive degree name, typically consisting of multiple words, such as "Bachelor of Science", "Master of Arts", or "Doctor of Philosophy". For example, when the JD mentions "Bachelor of Science", it is considered a normalized degree and will be used in the semantic degree search to retrieve semantically related degrees.

The Semantic Degree Search functionality operates by comparing the actual degree from the JD with the semantic degrees retrieved through the AI model. If the degree in the JD is a single word degree, the normalized degree (e.g., "Bachelor of Science") is used for semantic degree search instead. If both the actual and normalized degrees are single words (e.g., "Bachelor" and "Master"), semantic degree search will not be applied.

To use the semantic degree in the API response, you need to add semanticDegreeSearch parameter in your API request and set it to True. Refer to the example below for reference:

Key Notes:

  • The semanticDegreeSearch parameter can be passed in the API request of all match method that is Match, Match with ID, Match with Multiple Sub-User Ids, and One To One Match.
  • The Semantic Degree Search feature is implemented specifically for JD to Resume match types within the Match methods.

  • Both the actual degree and its semantic degrees are included in the query, with duplicate degrees eliminated.

  • If the degree mentioned in the JD is a single word (e.g., "Bachelor" or "Master"), the normalized degree (e.g., "Bachelor of Science" or "Master of Arts") is used to perform semantic degree search.

  • If both the actual and normalized degrees are single words, semantic degree search will be disabled for that match.

  • The Semantic Search feature may experience some latency as it leverages AI technology for enhanced results.
